Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the Kalyanamitta (Good Friends) Study in the Perspective of Buddhism. In the present it is important to know the characteristics of someone who can be a good friend, because in fact there are still people who are wrong in choosing friends. So that it can be seen that bad actions or treatment are still experienced in everyday life. This fact can be known and often occurs in daily life and broadcast by other social media. In addition, a similar story also occurred in the Buddha's era regarding Dewadatta who incited King Ajatasatu to kill his father in order to get his father's inheritance.
The method used is qualitative library research. The basis for data search was carried out by examining the literature through reading books from credible primary (Tripitaka) and secondary sources related to the problem under study. Data analysis using a descriptive qualitative analysis literature review. The data recording in this study went through five stages, namely: (1) preparation, (2) data collection, (3) organizing and introducing, (4) checking or editing concepts, and, (5) presenting or typing.
Based on this research, it can be concluded that Kalyanamitta (good friends) or also called spiritual friends can be interpreted as someone who has a high sense of caring, is able to create a sense of comfort, can be trusted, and always leads for good. The Buddha explained in the Sigalovada Sutta what type of person is called a Kalyana mitta (good friends): Always helping when in trouble (Upakaro-Mitto), always in good and bad conditions (Samanasukha Dukkho-mitto), giving good advice (Atthakhaya-mitto), and sympathetic (Anukampako-mitto).
Befriending the wicked and disliking the noble, and preferring the teachings of the evil person is the cause of one's downfall. As for the impacts such as; life, taking what is not given, engaging in sexual wrongdoing, speaking falsehoods, speaking divisive words, speaking harshly, rambling or ramblinggossiping, full of desire, having thoughts of wanting to hurt, and holding wrong views.
The benefits of having good friends in the Dighajanu Sutta namely, friendship and close relationships with good people is one the things that create happiness, other functions and contributions of the application of Buddhist friendship namely; as a reflection of good name, as a bridge to create prosperity and happiness; as an antidote to declining; as a wheel that leads to development and prosperity; as the main blessing; as a contribution to cultivating wisdom; as a pioneer to practice the noble eightfold path; as a first step towards realizing enlightenment; as fa as the starting point of ignorance and as the beginning of realizing true knowledge and the beginning of liberation; and as a contribution to eliminating suffering.
