Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was an effect of the question and answer method on students' speaking skills and how much influence the question and answer method had on speaking skills. Researchers are interested in taking this research because researchers find several problems that occur to students of SMP Bodhisattva Bandar Lampung, namely students are hesitant and embarrassed to argue, the ideas spoken are not clear, still use books to answer questions from teachers, and students often give answers that are not according to the questions and learning topics.

The methodology used by researchers is a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The data collection techniques and tools used by the researcher were in the form of a closed questionnaire which contained statements from the question and answer method variable (X) and the speaking skill variable (Y). Meanwhile, the data analysis techniques used by the researcher include the instrument validity test, reliability test, normality test, homogeneity test, hypothesis testing, and descriptive analysis.

The results obtained from this study were that there was an effect of the question and answer method on students' speaking skills in the subject of Buddhist Religious Education at the Bodhisattva Junior High School in Bandar Lampung for the 2019/2020 academic year of 44.3%, while 55.7% was influenced by other factors. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the question and answer method applied by the teacher has a positive influence on students' speaking skills in Buddhist religious education subjects at the Bodhisattva Middle School in Bandar Lampung for the 2019/2020 academic year.
